Packrat: i don't know too much about taxes, but i think my cpa told me quarterly estimated taxes are based off of the previous year. So i was a company driver last year. All i know is i told him i started a business so he naturally thought i wasn't going to make any money in the first year and when he found out i did, he freaked out and we made a 6k payment in october towards taxes. He also said that i would probably be penalized for not making quarterly payments so we'll see how that goes.
Old school: i would tell someone not only in trucking but in life if you put yourself in a position took succeed you probably will. I came out with 60k in cash, put down 20k on a 3 yr old truck with a warranty and had 40k in the bank.
Rainy: I'll try to get some numbers next month when i get my taxes done but too many people focus on cpm because that's usually how the megas pay. Short trips and trips that end up in the middle of nowhere pay the most and that's where you're going to hear these o/o say "well, i make 5 bucks a mile" that probably means they either took a trip that was only 100 miles or ended up somewhere where they had to deadhead 500 miles out or take a trip that pays 1.00 a mile.
To drive with an empty trailer. After delivering your load you will deadhead to a shipper to pick up your next load.
Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

Whatever that means. How do I use that to help me be successful?
