Are load boards just for OO/LO drivers? Company drivers like me don't use load boards, or do they?

Company drivers have dispatchers. We don't need no stinking load boards!

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Whoa! I was just asking because I see load boards mentioned from time to time but I don't really know what they are or how they work. I'm very happy with my dispatch.

Yeah people or companies looking for freight look at load boards to find the type of loads they are looking for, just as people or companies wanting to find carriers to move their freight post loads on these boards. Company drivers don't use or need them. Their company has people scouring their sources for the best loads that work for their situations.

Bruce, you are with Schneider - they allow their owner/operators to have access to their load boards and pick or reserve the loads that work best for them.

Old School, thanks. And yes, whoever is my dispatcher at Schneider (and I do know it's a different person than my Driver Business Leader) has been very good to me. So now I will just forget about load boards and at my age it's easy to forget.

In the case of where I'm at, we're allowed, as company drivers, to search the load boards if we're going to be in an area where freight can be sketchy. I've done it once when I was in southeast Wyoming and loads were scarce. I found the load, sent the info to my load planner and she was able to get more money on the load as well. It's a very rare occurrence but a nice tool to have available.
