Did I miss something? I didn't see anything about the driver being fatigue. Regardless it's terrible and I'm glad they found the driver responsible.

I was gonna post this - but I was waiting for more details to be made public.
The only way to charge fatigued driving, would be if there were log violations or the driver had mentioned something about not getting enough sleep.
I'm suspecting there's more than meets the eye in this article - but a driver running off the road and hitting a trooper car that's on a traffic stop, indicates some pretty severe negligence in any scenario.
I have friends that are LEO in IL, and they're real upset about distracted and other issues with drivers that are taking out fellow officers while they're just trying to do their jobs.
If found guilty, this guy is going to do some REAL PRISON TIME. $250K bond - he's probably going to sit in the can waiting for his trial.

Not just admitting you were tired will get you. I have a CPAP and they can just check it and see if I was sleeping properly. They also check your phone records and see if you were on it when you say you were sleeping.
CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.
