Bdub, your best choice is a company paid training program and then driving for that company after all your training. But there is nothing wrong with studying on your own and getting your Commercial Learners Permit. Everything you need to study is right here on this site. Check out the links. Good luck!
Welcome to the TT site! The recommended practice here is to go with company paid training, so they have a vested interest in seeing that you are a success. Private schools will teach you enough to get a license, but that does not guarantee a job offer. Any of the companies you mentioned offer training. Of those companies, Swift is larger than all the others combined, so lots of opportunities and options there. Another thing you’ll want to check out is each company’s hiring areas. Texas should be okay, though.

I have read and gone over so much great information on these forums. I'm trying to figure out the best route for myself in getting my cdl a. My mvr is clean, background clean, and I pulled trailers for work for years, but that's pickup and a 16 ft flatbed. No wife, no kids. I'm 46, and after caring for my mother who passed from cancer, I want to open a new life chapter. My swift recruiter is very informative and I have asked all the questions that I came across on these boards. I hear good and bad about all the paid for training companies. A local school could be an option for me as well. I've looked into Roehl and Stevens, not interested in cr England. I'm ready to learn with a positive attitude and work ethic. Some of y'all are probably tired of newbies on here asking the same questions, but any and all input would be appreciated. I live in south Texas. Thank you for reading and best wishes and safe travels over the holiday weekend.
