Well Friday is my last night working at the prison. And so will end a 14 year career in law enforcement. I am looking forward to start my CDL training at Prime on the 11th. Hopefully I soon I will be able to join the great professional drivers we have here on TT.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Congratulations and Good Luck at Prime! I bet your TRIFECTA Bonus that you will indeed "TRIFECTA"! After Jeff left the Prison (as an employee, not a prisoner ....hahahahahah), he felt a relief, but a little nervous by leaving a stable job....He told me tonight he is VERY happy with his/our decision and he is glad he picked Prime and Prime picked him!!

Keep us posted, I will be looking for your posts!

A big thank you to Brett, Starcar and Free spirit for the words of confidence. I have been continuing to study Brett's High Road Program here. It has really been easy for me to learn it in this format. Infact I just finished the weights and balance section last night. I will go next week and test for my permit that way I will have it before I get to prime to just to further put ahead of the game so to speak.

I will continue to check in here as time permits after I start. Plus get the wife a new computer for the house. Once I do that I will take my current one on the road with me.

Using wifi at truck stops can be costly. and they suck half the time even when I park right in front. Yup I am one of those guys that shut down as early as possible and run around 3-4am. oh and if your on I95 in lets say Virginia, shut down early Ray. because after 6pm you will not find a parking spot anywhere you want to be and those scale house/ rest areas stand clear. every morning I had to use those they had the portable scales out near the exit.

Thanks for the info Highway. Been thinking about getting on of those mobile hot spot things to use since I can't use my phone as one since it is a pre-paid phone.

Mongo, if you ever decide to get a smart phone, Verizon offers a 19% discount for Prime employees. You will have access to the internetsmile.gif I have confirmed this with Verizon, but the Primary Account Holder HAS to be the employee...Jeff and I are having to flip flop the account now....I'm not sure about other phone companies.

I have a smartphone but it is a straight talk pre-paid. Itried to d/l a few mobile hot spot apps for it. They just wouldn't load into my phone. So I am going to have to get a hot spot pre paid or may end up going with verizon down the road.

Ray, congratulations on taking this first step into a new career. I changed careers after thirty years of doing something I really enjoyed, and now I'm finding I'm doing something I enjoy even more. This job has it's own unique set of rewards and benefits. There is a satisfaction that comes with it that I don't think many other careers possess.

I've always considered people in law enforcement to have some sort of special calling on them, simply because I couldn't imagine having to do their job. I can't even imagine working in a prison. I've done a lot of things in life, and I once taught a group of prisoners who couldn't read and write how to do just that. But the constant efforts of some of them trying to con me and being dis-ingenuous with me had a very hardening effect on me. There were days I just didn't even want to see them, because I knew it was going to be the same old thing. I would not have made a good prison guard, because I would have been so jaded in a short period of time that I don't think I would have been able to serve the prisoners very well at all.

I'm getting side tracked, but just wanted to say I think you'll find this to be a very rewarding career move. Best of luck to ya!
