Check with your DMV. In Oregon if you're within three years all you have to do is bring in a current physical and pay the fees. You don't have to test or anything. When I went back to driving I missed the cut off by two weeks so I had to do everything again.

As BigT says - it may vary from state to state. A voluntary downgrade can usually be reinstated within the limits set by the individual state.

Hello all, I got my CDL in 2016 and in 2018 I downgraded it back to a class c because I was no longer in the trucking industry. Now my current employer needs me to have a CDL to drive around some of there trailers. My question is do I have to do the behind the wheel again or do I just need to get my physical card and take the written test again since I’ve passed the behind the wheel so recently?
