The BEST answer is shadow. The rear of the vwhicle in front will have a clearly defined passage, anything off road is going to have some fudge going on due to inrerpretation of the angle of passage. Zipperlines also work if there is a decent shadow from the vehicle to use as reference...

Just my $.03. ( It used to be $.02, but Im just THAT good... )

If it's another rig, and you can read the company name or make out the trailer numbers on the doors, you're too close. 4 to 7 seconds minimum at 60 mph. The greater the distance the better. The largest cause of fatality and major injury accidents with trucks is a rear end collision. good-luck.gif
