You should be fine, just explain it just as you did here.

I agree with PackRat. You gave us a good explanation. Just repeat that. If you've got letters of recommendation, provide copies of them. Keep up the conversation with Maverick; they may still work with you. Let them know you are seriously interested in working for them.
Somebody's going to sign you up, just be persistent.
I agree, persevere. It is actually common for companies to let you go when you put in your notice. Many employees will stand around for those two weeks bad mouthing the company, being unproductive, etc.
I’m actually surprised Maverick reacted that way.

Hi everyone!
Im about halfway through CDL school, and I have started applying for jobs. Two of my top picks have been Schneider and Maverick.
Great forum with tons of great information. I had a quick question on standard practices among the larger carries hiring process.
I was extremely excited about Maverick. I really felt it suited me very well. Talking to my recruiter today it looks as though I probably won't be getting the job though.
Before coming to trucking school I worked for a contract company at a hospital. When I put in my 2 weeks notice to start driving school they fired me. I've never been fired from a job in my life until this one. Anyway im sure when Maverick checks this job they will say I was terminated.
I let the recruiter know what happened and he said they will still check on it and see what happens but the typical policy is working for one year without being fired. Really stinks for me because I worked in the same field for 16 years with nothing but awesome letters of recommendation from former employees, etc..
Sorry for the lengthy post, but my question is this...because I was technically terminated from my last position will this make it that much more difficult to get my foot in the door? Any way around this?
