I went to school & received my CDL earlier this summer (2019) and I've been applying for company after company with no luck. I just left this orientation on the 3rd day after hearing that the company won't be hiring me (Landair) :/ I had a 15+ speeder August 2017 and another one November 2017. Its been 2 years since and I'm just wondering if there's any company out there that might even consider me. I'm 24 years old & some companies say I have to wait until May 2020 when I turn 25. Again - here is the typical, baseline standards most Insurance Companies give to carriers.

As you can see - speeding tickets of 15+ are viewed the same as DUI & Hit 'n' Run convictions. They are no joke.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

You may have to wait a couple years. My story is I was very dumb back in 2015, I had a following too close violation, a speeding ticket for going 15 mph over the speed limit, AND a careless driving. Never had any alcohol related violations though.

Lucky for me I corrected my driving over the last few years and learned a lot. Roehl allowed me to go through their program and get a spot in their Midwest regional fleet, for which I'm very grateful. I'm excited to start next week

I did not lie on my application, I let them know that I had these violations and I demonstrated my record was clean since 2015.

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

King Oli, your in a tough spot yes but dont give up. I had a failure to obey high sign, speeding 15+, speeding 15+, then a following to closely. That was all in 2014 and then the start date of the conviction on the last one was in January 2015. Well I took my CDL in August, 2016-March 2017. I applied to Warner Transportation, Maverick Transportation, TMC Transportation, Melton Transportation, Knight Transportation, Stevens transportation and Swift Transportation. Well I got in with Swift Transportation!! So trust me you can do it, yes you may have to wait and take a refresher or a full course again and may have to sign a contract for a company for so long like 12 months of work with them or more in some instances.

Now with no tickets in the last 4-5 years I can say, its worth not having those tickets on it. Yea it may be frustrating right now but stick with it! Now I am with Pam Transportation and in training. Here is the link to my truckers diary. I really wish you well. Started Training with Pam Tranportation 04/21/2019 Stay strong and let us know what happens😁.

When you filled out your CDL school's application, did you advise the director or staff that you had these two violations? If not, why not? If you did tell them, I am surprised they accepted you. Stating that, they may have been more than happy to take your money, knowing you had a very slim to no chance of getting a job upon graduation.
