The drivers that do have their CB's on act like 3rd graders on them. Perfect example was yesterday.

I was heading down rt 30 just about to enter Warsaw. I heard some bozo on the radio calling another driver a hillbilly for something he was doing in the right lane. Couldn't quite make it out at that point what he was talking about. As I was coming over a hill a truck was at a standstill in left lane with his hazards on. I slowed down and put on my hazards till I could figure out what was up.

It was a simple right lane closure. That same driver tried to turn his attention to me "can't you dumgum read driver!!!!" I responded that the backup at the point was easily 100 yards before the sign and asked him instead of calling drivers "inbreds" why not warn drivers of the brake check?

In typical truck driver fashion. He said I must be a Democrat and Hillary supporter. Which not only had 0 correlation with what we were discussing also told me he knew I was right.

So I played along and said yep she would of been the best president ever. Haha.

Yes folks, turn on your CB, at least leave it on, you can use the squelch knob to reduce the static. Mine is always on, nothing fancy, the cheapest Cobra Classic I could get, the 25LTD. I rarely talk on mine anymore, but I do LISTEN. I traveled that stretch of I-80 for many years running produce, and never saw anything like the above, now these accidents are the norm. Do you think if someone had their CB on warning the oncoming traffic of what was ahead this would have been this bad of an accident? Use the damn radio, it is there for a reason, a good reason. When it snows, turn the radio on, ESPECIALLY if you are in the mountains! Freak storms happen all the time in elevations, it could be sunny and 70 and ten minutes later you are in a snow squall. Same with any weather or when traffic volumes are heavy. Find the traffic stations if you are in a city, Detroit has two, 760 and 950 am, both have traffic reports every 5 mins. There is also traffic on XM/Sirius radio, locate those channels and store them. You are supposed to be professionals, act like one, do your job, and part of your job is to monitor traffic. Use all of the tools at your disposal, do not be a victim.

Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

For sure, then you get the guys who spam some incoherent music or tv show. Or that guy who rides up and down 80/94 around Gary trying to rile people up by offering to meet them at the Pilot and "put a whooping on them"

It is tame out here compared to years ago, like no one even has a CB in their truck. I drove across much of Wyoming a few weeks ago, never heard a peep, accidents, construction, police, etc... I can see why they have 100+ truck pileups going across 80 in Wyoming... As far as Chicagoland... I drive it almost daily now, very quiet across there, not how it used to be in the 80's and 90's...

I think its hilarious when that bozo does that. Because what blows me away is how many drivers engage with him. Drivers screaming into the mic. I can honestly say I have never been made upset by anything said on 19. Its trash talk and nothing more. I saw you mentioned the other day the laptop/taser guy. I haven't heard him in awhile either. Last time I did he had the laptop's for "sale" for 20 dollars. You had him talking, the looking for a fight guy, "Dr. Pepper" man, and the bizarre conversation about "Joey Delgado' all going at the same time.

I think he was in front of me one day there was a silver Dodge mini van with a huge antenna on the roof, and since he is a retired driver I'm pretty sure it was him. It really amazes me with how many people get mad and argue with him.

On the plus side he does provide accurate information on accidents and traffic.

GREETINGS ALL,

Used to run a C. B. in whatever Truck I drove whether it was Company or Personal install. Tried that "portable C. B. setup" and retired it.

Last 2 years OTR (April '15 to April '17) I had no operational C. B. due to "I just didn't bother to replace the broken (Fire)Stick" and C.B. traffic wasn't worth the Constant Bashing.

Was running mainly I-85 from NC to Hotlanta, then 20 to DFW Airport area. weekly turns. Other route: I-40 to little rock then 30 to DFW Airport area and back or on 20 thru Hotlanta. NEVER had a problem with Traffic even when Clear/Icy/Snowy/Torrential Rain because I was alloted Enough Travel Time so I was afforded "waiting time".

I started Driving OTR in 2000, when C.B. was King and we could barely get a word in due to all the Chattering. Parked Up at Truckstops, Communication was GREAT as was help getting into slots, All Night Long where the OFF switch was engaged for "west and wewaxation, heh, heh, heh".

"THINGS" bought and sold on 19, like Left Handed Automatic Revolvers, Cans of Wh**p A**, Cans of Squat, Jake Brake Shoes and Fluid, Muffler Bearings, Strifoam Fuel Containers and other assorted oddities. - - - - Slip Seat Local operations: IF there's a installed C.B., i might turn it on, but most times I leave it OFF as hearing the excessively pointless profanity and negativity, ain't worth it for a Bear Trap/Traffic Report.

If you have a volume issue sometimes an external speaker you can plug into the cb will do wonders. I couldn't understand anything anyone said on mine until I got an external speaker. Of course half the time I'm running on 294 I get a bit nostalgic and turn the volume down for a bit.
