There appears to be a growing movement among state legislatures now to address the issue of lane blocking.

States work to toughen up left-lane-hogging laws

Couple these laws with speed limiters and split-speed limits between cars and commercial vehicles and there will be an increase in accidents.

Who will receive the blame-the politicians that wrote these laws, or the big, mean, dangerous trucks?

As with most laws I wish it were more clear. How long are you allowed to overtake another vehicle before its considered lane hogging or impeding traffic? With all these states having different laws about lane usage it's almost like they're setting CDL holders up to fail. If we're regulated so much from a federal level maybe they should create one set of laws for interstate travel nationwide. I dont know how an OTR driver can remember what you can do and where you can or cant do it.

*sarcasm* Well, everybody except Prime. Those slowpokes have no reason to be in the left lane ever ;). Well, unless they were the one that passed me in the freezing fog this morning hahaha smile.gif

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Unless politics change Rob, I do not see dual standard laws happening, in fact I only see things getting worse on that point - not to sound pessimistic. But some states as you know are more strict than others, especially around the cities and urban areas. Although rural areas can be just as bad.
