To all who replied, I thought my question was pretty straight forward. Thank you to the couple of you who apologized for jumping the gun. I may be new to owner/operating, but I know how to pay my bills. The only debt I have is my house and it will be paid off shortly. I always pay my credit card off at the end of the month. I am just looking for advise on which cards give the best fuel discounts and such.

Hey Lonny, I'm just curious, what motivates you to be in the Owner/Operator game? There's no wrong answer - honestly, for me it seems such a challenging business, that I wonder what it is that gives folks the initiative to pursue it.

I apologize as well! I didnt consider all the possible reasons for the question. Was in a negative mindset with my business yesterday. Wish you success

Do you have your own authority or leased onto a company??? Makes a big difference.

Under your own authority NASTC has a good program with T/A and Petro.

I am leased onto a large carrier and I use their fuel card and their discount.

I do not recommend using credit cards because you will be paying pump prices.

Great point by PJ.

If you're pleased onto a large carrier you'll get fuel surcharges and various discounts on maintenance and tires. Otherwise you'll need your own authority and reap some of the benefits through OOIDA or as recommended from NASTC.

OOIDA:

Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association

Who They Are

OOIDA is an international trade association representing the interests of independent owner-operators and professional drivers on all issues that affect truckers. The over 150,000 members of OOIDA are men and women in all 50 states and Canada who collectively own and/or operate more than 240,000 individual heavy-duty trucks and small truck fleets.

Their Mission

The mission of OOIDA is to serve owner-operators, small fleets and professional truckers; to work for a business climate where truckers are treated equally and fairly; to promote highway safety and responsibility among all highway users; and to promote a better business climate and efficiency for all truck operators.
