Hello and welcome.
Most of us wont be able to help you as the goal of this website is to help prospective drivers get through the schooling and training process to become productive company drivers.
Brokers do add in fees even at Prime when it comes to Independent contractors on 1099. OOIDA will be more helpful.
Good luck
OOIDA is an international trade association representing the interests of independent owner-operators and professional drivers on all issues that affect truckers. The over 150,000 members of OOIDA are men and women in all 50 states and Canada who collectively own and/or operate more than 240,000 individual heavy-duty trucks and small truck fleets.
The mission of OOIDA is to serve owner-operators, small fleets and professional truckers; to work for a business climate where truckers are treated equally and fairly; to promote highway safety and responsibility among all highway users; and to promote a better business climate and efficiency for all truck operators.
Who is not reading the contracts before accepting the load?
This is why I hate dealing with brokers. I usually don’t. They really have no rules when it comes to fees. They have to disclose those up front though. I suggest you have a talk with your dispatcher because that is the person accepting and agreeing on your behalf. You need to set parameters with that dispatcher.
Every once in awhile they accept a broker load for me to get me back. They usually pay crap and are full of issues. That is why the customers are using a broker to start with unless they are just so small they can’t get a straight out contract with a carrier.

New to hotshot trucking (6 months), currently working under someone else's authority. Recently (last week) saw a new fee on my contract for the first time, for ME to pay a broker's fee of $75 to the broker. Has anyone had this fee before? Is this a fair and legal fee? The broker has already been paid, why am I (the driver) paying a broker fee. I currently have a dispatcher and do not find my own loads. Again today i saw another broker fee for me to pay for $50, they want it cashapp or zelled to them.
Dispatcher:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
