Hey guys and gals I took my cdl A test today under yrc freight. I passed the Pre trip and backing with no issues. Unfortunately the tractor trailer we were using had a bad air leak the examiner noticed it right away when I did the static applied test to check the air leakage rate. Because of this he gave me a receipt and told me the vehicle is not safe to drive and I would have to reschedule and come back another day to take the road test portion. I’m bummed out about it I was so ready to get my cdl after a month of hard work. I’m now waiting for my yrc freight instructor to let me know when the second test date will be. Has anyone had an experience like this on test day?

CDL:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

That stinks, sorry to hear that. On a bright note....maybe you can use the time to practice?

Yeah I’m hoping I can get more practice until then. The other trainee in the class with me only got to do the pre trip inspection the examiner wouldn’t even let him do maneuvers because the leak was so bad.

No it’s a cdl program through YRC freight for people that want to get a cdl and work for them.

You could look up some of Banks' posts; he did the FedEx Dock to Driver program; should be (could be?) similar.

Here's a link:

Banks' Driver Apprentice Program

Keep in mind, YRC has gone through some 'hiccups' in the industry lately; although for the time being, they 'appear' to have the backing of the Gov't. Good or bad, not sure, haha!

Just a start for ya....

Best to you~!!!

Just to follow up on this, I ended up passing the road test and am now awaiting to start line haul training with yrc freight. I’m excited

Line Haul:

Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning them to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.
