I applied to a company and a company appeared on my Dac report so they had to verify them. When verifying them the company statement was I abandoned the truck and load. My question is how.

I went to the company March 30, 2020 I got a call March 31, 2020 my grandfather whom was living with me had passed from Covid. I notified my trainer. He notified the company they gave me permission to get off of the truck.

I have the email traffic they asked me to come back just last month but since it was a new company they told them I was non hireable for abandonment. Where did I abandon it at. Plus I was told to go into quarantine because my grandfather was living in my home but isolated. I didnt return back to the company but how is it abandoning a truck and a load by not returning.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

File a dispute with DAC - send in ALL THE DOCUMENTATION (emails, etc.) - to prove your case.

As a lesson (to everyone) - COMMUNICATE EVERYTHING IN WRITING (emails, qualcomm , etc.) and KEEP ALL COMMUNICATIONS (picture of qualcomm screens with your phone, emails) - EVERYTHING.

It can save your butt down the road - in circumstances such as this.

There's some "missing information" here. You went to orientation on 3/30/20? Did you have a CDL already? Not sure how you got on a truck so fast - to get an abandonment on your DAC. Call the HR department of the company, ask for a supervisor, see if you can get this straightened out.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

That's something you should address with the company, or dispute it on your DAC report. If you were indeed with a trainer and had a valid reason for getting off the truck (which you did) I don't see how its abandoning either. Did you keep them informed on what's going on? Why did you take 6 months to get back? Was that your first trucking job? If it was you have 1 day of experience and been out of the truck for 6 months. You may need to do schooling again depending on what company you get on with.
