You could start here:

Companies that hire with DUI's..

And then.... this ^^^^ ! Stick around; wish you the best !

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Hi. Anne posted a great link.

Keep in mind the further from the DUI when applying the better. Most companies want a 3 year clean record so you might hear a lot of no's. Some will not accept a DUI at all...even 30 years later. If you have more than one it will cause a problem for others.

Apply everywhere and good luck.

David, was your license also suspended due to the DUI? That would pose some issues as well.

Just a little FYI for ya. If you get a DUI after you get your CDL you're disqualified from driving for a minimum of 1 year. The legal limit for CDL holders is also only .04 rather than .08. Nearly every company has zero tolerance. Drinking any amount of alcohol on the road, or a hotel they're paying for will result in immediate termination. Also, even a trace of alcohol on your breath (including mouthwash with alcohol!) will result in being out of service for 24 hours and likely out of your job. We've all made mistakes in life but I just want to point out how serious alcohol use is taken in this industry. Any drug or alcohol infractions after you have your license will require you go through a Substance Abuse Program (SAP) before being allowed to drive again. It will be very difficult finding employment at a reputable company even after completing that. All drug/alcohol tests are now recorded on the federal Clearinghouse so there's no way to hide anything.

Your best best is to use the DUI link Anne sent and also Apply For Paid CDL Training. Having a previous DUI will have an impact on what companies are willing to give you a chance. Do NOT pay for private schooling especially with your DUI being less than 3 years. People are hired with far worse records. You may need to give it more time since your DUI but by using that link above 1 application will be sent to many companies and they can give you specifics about how they handle it.

Good luck, please let us know what you find out.

Substance Abuse Professional

The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices
