I prefer a Carhartt duck lined coat with a hoodie beneath. I found layers to work well as I can remove layers if I get too warm.

Packrat didn’t you say you’d be coming through Virginia Beach soon? What’s your itinerary?

Thanks for the suggestions, all! REI has a big sale going on now so I’m going to check out what’s available. Looks like down jacket with an 800-850 cert may be the way to go

Yes, off Tower.

Not going to get the Plastics load now because that load just got pulled from me. I have now idea what I'm going to load next. Maybe Coors in Golden?

Thanks Lumpers!

I always hated going to that DC when I ran for Knight. It was never less than two hours and I've been there as much as six. It's a really miserable experience when your yard is literally a mile away. I do not miss going to Coors in the least though.

Keith---5 hours now and counting. I've been here four times. This is the final time. I am going to Coors, once I depart here.

Eugene---I will be in VB all day Tuesday if you want to meet. I'll be back on the road at noon on the 27th.

I don't blame you. I was never more excited than when we stopped running grocery loads in and started doing drop and hook pallet loads out of that DC. I've never understood why lumpers take SO long. I can unload a 53' trailer of mail in under 10 minutes if someone keeps my dock plate clear. Takes about 20 minutes to unload a full trailer of pallets with two forklifts.

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

Hey Packrat, Tuesday is my day off next week and I’d love for the opportunity to meet up for a quick cup of coffee or maybe sneak a peek at your tractor, if you’re comfortable with that.

Like you said, not much you’d have to share that I haven’t already read on here, but I’m getting closer and closer to starting this journey and my excitement is reaching a fever pitch. Any opportunity to talk to a seasoned veteran and hear some wisdom would be much appreciated.

My driver (hubby) has been wearing one for .. maybe 10 years? Bought him a new one 2 years ago...and he wanted the 'worn in' one. (Yes, we do hunt....so there's that, haha!)
