Day 13. On Saturdays we have half day classes. Today it was road planning (fuel, stops, etc.) and map reading. This atlas has ton of useful information in it! I just wish the print was a bit bigger.

Day 14. Today we drove a different truck, also a Freightliner, but with a Detroit engine instead a Cummins (I don't think it matters though), less miles, but a few years older. What did matter though is how smooth it shifted. This other transmission is way more forgiving. May be just more worn out, go figure :-) Any way, my shifting was much better, and I could finally begin focusing on something else like rolling down my windows at railroad crossings. After some city driving we practiced offset and 90 at the backing range. Tomorrow we will have a pre-test.

Still following, Andrey. . . LOVE your diary!!

What is UP with those simulators? My son has that Great American Truck game on his PC, and it makes me nauseous, just 'watching' him, yet I have no problem riding shotgun w/my hubby in a real rig . . . ?!?!?

Hopefully you are PAST that part, eh?

Keep on keeping on, good sir.

Day 15. With the test approaching so fast, we were training today with personal instructors, driving and practicing maneuvers for the whole day. I drove 80+ miles around Marshfield, and can say that the whole shifting thing has finally had mercy on me, so from now on we are friends :-)

How did your 1st day go, Dave?

Days 16-17. I had a very similar schedule these couple days - city driving and yard maneuvers,, mostly driving. My MPG is between 7.9 and 8.2, which my instructor says is not too bad for winter. I have one more day to polish my skills, and then show it to a tester on Friday!

Thank you. Shifting is my smallest concern now. I am fine with pre-trip and road test, but my off-set is still not as good as I want it to be.

Patience, perseverance and pretrip~!! Roads to perfection! << Yet, the driver that 'attains' perfection...has A LOT to learn! (IMHO, of course..) Still following, man!

Offset is supposedly the 'hardest' that becomes the 'easiest' when you are out there. Whenever I ride w/ my hubby... its all I see (and envy, I must add) .. and becomes second nature!

Kudos, good sir. Hang in, hang on.
