Can't say for sure Will, but when I was there last year they were only taking urine samples. But, just be forewarned, if you show up for a truck driving job orientation and fail a drug test they will put it on your DAC report and you will basically be black-balled from any trucking job from that point on. This holds true just about anywhere you go, not just TMC. So, the best policy is to be clean and stay clean. I can't tell you how many guys I have seen get fired not only from their trucking job, but from their trucking career because they failed to understand that random drug testing means you are also going to be tested after you get that job. Those who really love this career do what it takes to keep this career. Good luck Will, but if you've reason to doubt you will pass I recommend you put it off for a while.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I'm gettin' pretty hard core over this "What kinda drug test does each company do" stuff. If you are doing, or have done drugs to the point that you fear you will test positive....get a flipaburger job, stay off the drugs, and bide your time until you are sure you can test clean. I, for one do not want ANY TRUCKER out there that does drugs. If I find one, I will drop a dime on you to your company, the cops, and anyone else who will do something. What people think of you, what you do while in a truck,...you are a representative of EVERY truck driver on the road, who is training to drive, and who will come into the industry in the coming years. I don't need that, I don't deserve that, and I won't stand for that. The only reason I can think of for someone to worry about what kind of drug test a company does is if a person shaves their entire body. And yes, since you are thinking I'm a prude....I did drugs...back in the 60's, when drugs were alot cleaner...I made 'em, I sold 'em, I muled 'em, I took 'em.........So you aren't gettin' a cherry with this old trucker.... Clean up, grow up, or go find a different job. I for one am tired of *****footin' around this topic.

Thanks for the info Old School. ...

Just to clear it up... its not like im doing drugs right now. Just something I tried and realize its not for me. If I known I was going to take a interest in trucking after the military then of course I would not have done it. If it is a urinalysis then ill pass with out a doubt. The recruiter who cane to my trucking school said the do urinalysis, the recruiter who I called 2days ago said the did both test and the recruiter who called me back said she didn't know which 1 they did. So if there is someone who recently went through help me out.

Will, about five or six months ago we had a driver on here go to TMC and he wrote a nice little detailed journal about his experience at orientation. You might find Steve's TMC Journal interesting and informative. I don't think he addresses the drug testing question, but still you might want to read it. As far as I know they are still just doing the urine test at their orientation. If they do hair testing it might just be that they occasionally do it during their random tests on drivers.

I totally agree with Starcar. If testing will be an issue you will need to wait for a while. Just to let ya know. Random testing means they can test you at any given moment. Any 5 ime of day. Oh by the way....DOT can do random drug testing at scale houses. Does not happen much but it does happen.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
