Yesterday a convoy of truckers protesting AB5 slowed down the heavy traffic area around the shipping ports. Protests are rumored to grow over the next few days.

This comes after the courts decided in favor of the law, ending a 3 year dispute. Versions of AB5 are spreading to other states.

AB5 which was meant to protect gig workers is affecting lease ops and those who lease onto a company for freight.

Boycott California!

I would if I wasn't in a company truck. I don't spend any money there.

This is going to really hurt alot of folks. After passing AB5 and it getting tangled in court the state had gotten another mandate, policy or whatever you want to call it concerning the age of trucks pulling containers out of the ports. Long story short the ports required any truck on their property to be a 2014 or newer. Alot of I/C’s went and bought newer trucks, and now have truck payments.

Many of the container haulers all over the country are leased onto the carrier.

If the first go round of messing up the ports didn’t screwup the supply chain well enough, this one very well might.

From all I have been following since 2018, this is not just transportation, but all subcontractors. Nail salons, barbers, Uber/Lyft drivers, etc.

Elections do indeed have long lasting consequences, but they seem to like it this way on the left coast. The same mistakes are stuck on repeat every two years out there. A perpetual political "Groundhog Day". Those that can flee the state are doing so in record numbers, while those that cannot are ground down.

I'll stop now because as everyone knows, I can really get into the weeds on this and that's not the intent of the TT site.
