Hello everyone, I’m really considering getting into Trucking, it’s been a dream for a long time. But here’s my question I’m 54 years old, I’m on lyrica (pregablin) for nerve pain caused by back issues. Last I’m also on Eliquis which is a blood thinner, I have dealt with blood clots . I will stay on blood thinner rest of my life. I’m a journeyman plumber by trade so I work every day in all kinds of positions… lol .. Ty for your feed back…. P.s. with these meds I’ve been doing great I feel much better. But plumbing is kicking my body’s but…

Haya, FreeBird, and welcome to TT !!

The answer(s) to your questions may (or may not) lie within; but here's a start:

FMCSA Approved/Non Meds List ~

Additionally; some companies are more 'specific' than others; as it's up to their insurance carriers, ultimately.

Have you read our 'welcome' wagon???

On another note; my husband & driver of 22 years (more, if you count his refuse/trash route from the 80's) ... has been wearing cargo pants/shorts, for the last ten plus years, to keep that wallet from offsetting his hips. His new cellphone case also houses his CDL and the important bank cards/COMDATA (company fuel) card. That, and exercise...has rendered him Rx free. I'm not sure of your situation, however... just what worked for us.

Re: Cargo &/or Painters' pants... they don't look weird... Many drivers do it.

Welcome; more later..hope this helps a bit.

~ Anne ~

Hello Lynyrd Skynyrd. Great nickname, I wish I’d thought of that. Dayum.

I spent 50 years in construction. Wore out my back, knees and brain. Truck driving has been my salvation. I want to keep working, but just can’t physically do construction anymore. When I sit in the driver’s seat, all my pain goes away, so it’s ideal for me. Except, the brain pain is still there.

Howdy!

If you were on Coumadin, you would have a problem. Eliquis should be okay. I'm on Xarelto and several blood pressure medicines for having AFib. They all require me to have a physical once a year which isn't a big deal. I'm losing weight and it seems like my blood pressure is coming down some. I was going to see my VA doctor soon, but they still have mandatory wearing of masks at all clinics and VA hospitals. So I told the clerk that I would be calling every few months and as soon as they got rid of the mask mandate, I'd make an appointment with my doctor and hopefully I can come off a couple of the blood pressure meds.

Free Bird;

Never DID make it to Zeppelin, but sure saw Rossington Collins !! Memories ~ ahhh... !

Now, the parachute pants.. oh my! Those are probably polaroids that I'm not scanning; but .. sure did have the 80's hair, going on! Come to think of ... I had silver balloon pants that went with a read sweater, haha! A few hair clips made my mop look like a mullet. That year, I went blonde. Bad move, for an eye'talian, took years to grow out. Again, photos aren't posting... it's in my profile, perhaps..haha!!

Another thing, good sir . . . many folks on this site (including, but not limited to...) the owner/admin, is anti mask and shots. We lost a great (epic) member, Rickipedia (aka: Rick S.) to Covid/shot related illnesses. I lost my brother (Navy Seal/HVAC) the same way.

In Memoriam; Rick Stern (I'm late on this, dang me.)

You (I believe!) can search posts by Brett Aquila, just like any other member's posts; he's been pretty vocal and rightfully so, for the last two/three years, the same way. Podcasts and blogs are ALSO available in the 'hamburger' (drop down) 3 bar menu, upper left.

I'm SO not waxing political, NOR poetic.....but WOW, what you've gone through. Glad to have you, for sure. I may be just a driver's wife, but WOW, the wealth of knowledge within these walls is phenomenal.

In recollection; some of our drivers recently posted, they are waiting for the mask mandates to lift, before they even drive and/or deliver. A county north of us in Ohio has the mandate; Tom doesn't have any stops there. Glad for that!

I sure hope you are healing from your pneumonia; I've had it two times myself; none recent. What a trooper you are, man...... being a plumber! Probably one of the toughest jobs. My uncle in NY, growing up, was Union tasked for 40 years; retired well, but hurting.

One last note; Tom takes Glucosamine Chondroitin (sp?) that helps somewhat; I'm sure he's got a touch of sciatica from sitting on his wallet, for years. Him being a lefty, wallet was always on the 'shifting' side (we learned in manuals) ... I recently/finally bought him a phone case that holds all his 'important' stuff; ie: CDLA, Bank Card, and ComData card! The rest stays locked up.

FreeBird, the Tomster isn't home yet, so this is all 'just me...' but, I sure know we all appreciate your contributions, (and input for future drivers/members) to the forum!!! Join the ranks!

Feel better soon; post soon after!!
