James, since when did Swift stop team driving during Mentoring?

I was in the same situation as you about a month and a half ago. Went with swift because you don't have to be out with a mentor as long and they don't require you to do teams while mentoring.

My research on Prime training is that they pretty well try to get you and your mentor to both run down the 70 clock. Whereas Swift doesnt push it as hard. I don't have a problem with a certain amount of teams driving, I just don't want to have to sleep while the truck is moving, which seems not safe considering the nature of this job (and the fact that I don't even know how to do this job yet and sleep deprivation will unequivocally hinder me learning things). This is from talking to other drivers, and reading other's experiences with the respective companies' training. So I may be wrong about their policies

James I think you are mistakin’ about Swift. They definitely team during Mentoring; first 50 hours of driving is supervised (mentor observing you), the remainder is teaming requiring you to sleep while the mentor drives.

You might want to dig a little deeper on this.

No point, I am about to take the CDL-A exam. Guess I will find out soon enough. It is what it is

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

My understanding is that they are both great companies so you can't go wrong tbh. Prime or Swift. Best of luck either way.

That was never questioned… we deal in facts; I questioned if Swift dropped running teams during part of the Mentoring phase. As far as I know, they have not.

I do however agree… my almost 9 years of driving for Swift was a very positive experience. Both companies are a good choice.

OK. Left the Physical exam medical site. Took the exam and hair test.

Swift called me, verifying a start of Monday. I'm rolling with it, not going to juggle around what ifs or what nots. I start swift academy Monday morning, going to do my very best and am looking forward to this experience, I will keep an update rolling. Thanks for the replies everyone.
