Update. A phone call in to the listed office got me in touch with Corey. I explained my confusion and he told me to just submit proof of paid taxes to California and the letter received to the email listed. Sounded exhausted explaining it, perhaps this is a wider issue at the moment.
Am waiting to see if another arrived for my 2020 year of employment as well.
Will update again when I get confirmation in writing that all is well and I keep that 1200 in my pocket.
As with the other comment warning to be careful of a scammer trying to get money out of you. I'd also advise to be careful that you are only sharing your proof of taxes paid in your state to a scammer who wants to steal your identity.

Exactly the kind of situation I was thinking about with a phishing scam. The best way to be sure it's not a scam is to consult a CPA.

Ok last update: Went through the website and matched contact info given on the form. Used the account number given on form to match information online. Emailed W2 and letter to requested address. Today received an email back that came in two levels of encryption then I had to make an account to view.
Advised the account had been updated to reflect correct filing and that no balance is due.
If anyone else from Prime receives any letter from Missouri Department of Revenue about individual filing request, you have a procedure for handling it now. It would be prudent to repeat verification steps for your own well being and be sure to call the number and speak to someone from the department at least once.
Hope nobody just paid to get it dealt with yet.
Before doing anything, such as providing personal information or paying money, when any type of letter (or email) arrives that is causing questions to be asked about legitimacy, take the letter (or email) to a professional who can properly advise what should be done.
Scams do exist to steal people's personal information and scams of a wide ranging sort exist. Don't assume that something is legit just because it looks to be printed on official letterhead. Scammers have gotten quite clever at appearing to be official. The types of letters to which I am referring are those that seem to be coming out of nowhere and raise red flags for any number of reasons, such as was the case with the topic of this thread.

This is a real thing that is happening. It is easily corrected. I have 5 driver friends that have done this. I haven't received anything yet
