Thats brings up a good question.... Is there a way to find out what drugs are not acceptable? Maybe a list? Im thinking along the lines of sleeping pills (Rx)

There is no official list that I know of. The only way I know of to get that information is to call a doctor or hospital that gives DOT physicals and ask them about specific drugs you're unsure of or a suggestion on one you can take.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I will be much more diligent in considering decisions I make in the future . . .

Indeed. I mean, what if you had already been a driver, you were out on the road when you took those pills, and then got hit with a drug test after driving the truck????

So the idea that you took a narcotic without a prescription shortly before taking a DOT drug test that you knew was coming is really kind of a knuckleheaded move on your part.

Well, as was commented on my original "Bummer Dude" thread, the concern in my mind and the people who commented was the drug test. That was why I got a statement from the ER doctor (via the nurse) explaining that it was a sample and was only 6 tabs with no followup prescription. I was concerned about testing positive during a drug test without a note from "teacher." No one (including my recruiter) mentioned the possibility of the 30 driving ban. It never occurred to me that this would be an issue two weeks after taking a drug (no prescription it is true but the doctor handed me the sample bottle himself) but I thought the note about who gave it to me was covering my bases. Just goes to show that a person (and I am included in this group - I'm pretty sure) needs to educate themselves in all aspects and possibilities where the Fed regulating an industry is concerned. Like I said before, I got stung once, I will make every effort to make sure I know all of the particulars in order not to be stung again. Two ironies, the medical people want a note from the ER doctor stating that there was no prescription involved (that was covered by the original note but my emphasis to the doctor was to make sure I had permission) and the second irony was that I had Daniel all lined up as my PSD (Prime Student Driver - I didn't know what that was for a long time either) and it was all approved by whoever approves such things. Now he gets Ken (well second best is still better than the rest, right?) and I get to hang out in a really crappy motel across the street from the Prime campus for 16 days. At least I don't have to take the physical again, just the drug screen.

Jopa. You did the right thing, however I don't think the meds you took stay in your system more than 2-3 days max..Sucks because I didn't kmow about this 30 day rule. Maybe I'll see you at orientation when I get there in May...

Awwwww Jopa sorry for the delay. But it's just a delay...you'll be back in no time. It seems they are constantly throwing an extra twist at us, that the recruiting just happen to forget to mention. All we can do is ROLL with the punches. Keep your head up and I'll see you back soon.
