Very few companies are going to let you have a pet from day 1 and when they do a lot want a pet deposit the dog might be a problem for you!

I found a few companies that would train me, and I would be able to bring my dog afterward. It will probably take a month or so. I hope not to have to board him for too long.

Training times vary and in trucking there are always delays. I had issues cause i had a cat. Prime let me bringnthebcat at upgrade, but training took from Sept to Feb. And most boarders wouldnt take him for more than 45 days. Being in that position sucks.

I had to leave my dog with my parents, move across the country for a month, and go through training, THEN go home to get my dog. It was rough, and she never did forgive me for it, but it was worth it in the end.

Depending on what you are hauling pets may not be allowed on the property.

Update: Well, Hogan has rejected me. I am looking at either Western Express or a company called Veriha. So, something weird happened with a system upgrade for the DMV. My medical card expiration date is a day off in the system. Western Express cannot move forward with processing my application because of it. System upgrades are a pain. I am still filling out applications and trying to find a job. Veriha is far from my home state, but I am not bothered by home time. This whole situation sucks.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Zen Joker and I both work for Veriha and are happy here. There's also posts from a member who hasn't been on in a long time (can't recall the name) as well as at least another training diary about them. We do mainly Midwest though not specifically STL, but I know drivers out of TX, TN and PA. And I've been doing more STL runs and just did a KC run. Any questions, ask away and ZJ and I will do our best.

I would pay the $100and get a new physical then. That way the new one is in the system.

I wouldn't give up but definitely be honest about where you feel you are at. I was fortunate enough to have a killer 6 week training on a 13 speed w/ Doug Andrus Distributing and I also paid for my own CDL training. Don't be afraid of getting additional training. There are companies out there that do 1-2 week sink or swim style training. In my opinion, the six weeks I spent with my trainer was invaluable and I made a friend for life who continues to mentor me even today despite me no longer even working for that company anymore. You will be fine. Take a deep breath, accept that you are new, and learn. That is literally all you can do. The docking will come in time. Best advice I can give you is don't feel rushed or pressured to rush in any situation. Be it backing, driving, or otherwise. Get out and look constantly and never become complacent.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Update: Well, I fixed the issue with my medical card. It cost me $6 to correct a mistake they made 🙄. I guess I should be grateful I didn't have to pay more. I have been filling out applications for IT and truck driving jobs. I have even applied for dump truck jobs, yard dog jobs, labor jobs operating machinery, etc. I wish someone would hire me. I am sick of all these rejection letters. I wondered what would happen if I got into a year contract with a carrier and got a job offer working in IT. I have been reading about the consequences of breaking these contracts. It doesn't make sense to owe money if you already paid for your CDL through a private school. Has anyone ever had to break a contract for a better opportunity? Did you have to pay?
