I realize there are tons of people who read this forum and never actually comment or post questions. So i am asking you to comment now 😁

What are some of your fears of trucking or training? Nothing is too stupid to ask.

I'm a bit experienced now, but parking, especially finding parking, was quite stressful. I've learned to better plan for parking earlier, rather than later when lots will be filling up or full, has helped a great deal. Sometimes the schedule may not allow or other bumps in the road get in the way and disrupt getting to park earlier, but definitely not as stressful as in the beginning.

What do you think is the best way to handle being on the road with your trainer? Should you just do whatever your told (within reason) and follow a "your truck=your rules" approach, while asking pertinent questions?

I have read so many instances of "trainees" complaining about "trainers" and just find it hard to imagine that these "mean trainers" are really that bad.

Parking is indeed a serious issue. I have created a Google maps list of not only trucks stops that always have parking, but of hotels with parking. You will find that as time goes on, you will find your favorites.

Knowledge is power. Use Trucker Path & google maps to give you layouts and good times for parking.

Your trainer is there not to be your friend, but to show you the job. Get through it and learn. Ask questions, do research if the person doesnt seem to know. Understand training is a short time, but will affect your future.

Understand many trainers have rules or attitudes towards students because of prior students. Example.. i have to tell students not to go through my cabinets. My personal belongings are in there, and often women go snooping through to imagine their own belongings in the space and how they will organize. It is the equivelent of me going to your house and snooping through your bedroom closet and drawers. Including your underwear drawer.

I had a student on here who asked me to train him and i agreed. He then became a pervert on the truck, asking me to shower with him, and took pics of me saying "i still see you" whenever we were off the truck.

One student kept driving in the on coming traffic lane while i was sleeping. She didnt know a double solid yellow line was on coming traffic. One woman didnt want to use public restrooms. Huh? In this job please explain that one!

Why do CDL Students Get Kicked Off a Truck?

A great trainer wants a great student, and revels in your success. A miserable trainer wants you for the money. Either way, the more the truck runs, the more money the trainer will make, and happier trainer you will have. If you are demonstrating you are learning, both trainers benefit.

Question: if you have to put up with a jerk for a month, but know you could make a million dollars over the next 10 years... can you survive that person.for a few weeks and never see them again?

If you let one person or one company hamper your perspective of trucking, you do yourself a disservice. You could quit and prevent yourself from acheiving a life long skilll.

Yes, there are bad trainers. There are great trainers. You can still learn from a bad trainer, even if it is what not to do. There are horrible students also. You dont want the trainers to assume you are a stalking, inconsiderate, unsafe driver who will kill them. So do not presume your trainer will be horrible and tyrannical.

Is this something you have available publicly? To download and add to Google Maps? I use Trucker Path as well and it’s great but having a 2nd option to look at stuff certainly helps, too. I’ve been at this for a little bit now but my #1 biggest thing I still stress and worry about is where I’m going to park. I’ve helped combat this a lot by just changing my schedule I run. Just start running earlier and parking earlier. Try to be done by 3-4pm. Sometimes this isn’t always an option though and I’ll buy Prime Parking as an absolute last resort if I have to. I usually give up on any Loves after 6pm.

Awesome advice! I totally agree just have to deal with whatever comes your way, its only a temporary situation.

The perverted stuff is completely disrespectful and should not be tolerated.

Thank you!
