I hated the top bunk, not because it was hot, but I had to sleep there all thru training, as he drove.....After meeting him, he had me drive a few hours. He said he was surprised how well I drove, so we started the team driving the next day. So yeah I NEVER touched to lower bunk, except to climb up top. I figured oh well, this is only temporary, I can get thru this little quirk of his. Other than that, we got along fine 98% of the time, and my month + was soon over with him.

Thanks, I'll try that!

So, if you are near a Walmart at any point, grab the RV dump hose, and a small USB rechargeable fan, and either a set of Velcro cable ties or shoelaces. Find where the cold air vent near the floor comes out, and drop the hose close to it. (You may have to remove daily to stay out of trainers way) Secure the hose wherever you can in the upper bunk, and place the fan in front of it, so it pulls the cooler air up to the bunk. It won't solve it all, but it will make sleeping easier.

I’ve been on the road with my trainer for a week and a half and I have to say my biggest frustration has been the inability to get a good night’s sleep. It probably has a lot to do with the top bunk being uncomfortable and hot, which I would imagine won’t be as bad down below.

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Perhaps the biggest fear I had when I started, other than backing up til it goes crunch, was the fear of getting in somewhere and not being able to get back out. Especially like truck stops or unplanned stops.

It was so bad that, my trainer would make me stop at random truck stop, the first few days, I would drive for 7 hours straight while he had to really go to bathroom lol.

I ended up obsessively trip planning every detail, using satellite images, streetview, multiple GPS and Atlas. It would take me a month of Sundays to get going and I wouldn't roll unless I was totally comfortable with my route, including stops for fuel and parking, back up alternative routes and alternate stops. I still trip plan today, but it's habitual and done quickly from repeating it so much.

I still have a healthy respect of unknown places, I've had to back out of a few situations buts it's usually a known element.
