I saw it this morning. I found it telling that Heartland proper did ok, but all three companies they purchased were under performers.
I find it also telling a large carrier is citing driver retention instead of the old tired line of a driver shortage. The ATA will probably scold them for that.
I know all three, miles transfer, Smith, and CFI all still operate under their individual authority. I’m just guessing but sounds like they are also still operating under their individual management teams and maybe heartland didn’t oversee things as maybe they should have. I don’t know the situation so I’m not going to critize them, but I would think they should have known more information sooner than they are letting on.
This industry has had more than our fair share of issues the past 3 years and the future is very uncertain to say the least.
The question is can or will heartland be able to turn things around, or will they be the next casaulty??
I friends at both CFI and Millis. Heartland made significant changes. Greg orr retired from CFI. Changes occured at that timw.
Millis went as far as to charge drivers higher insurance premiums for not using their medical triage type of consultants.
Personally.... i think these companies are doing it to themselves. Prime does a survey every year asking what to improve. Every year the results are "more home time and better communication". Every freaking year. Hmmm
Heartless is cherry picking loads from the other three. They also destroyed the family atmosphere of CFI. Most of the drivers that left were the more experienced drivers like myself.
When Heartless bought CFI they promised us that nothing would change, they lied. This is why I can no longer recommend CFI. Drivers there are still not making money.

Interesting... read through it. It mentions driver retention issues. Hmmm... maybe these companies should ask themselves WHY are they losing drivers??
