I've been out here a while and have somehow managed to keep myself from meeting any of you. I even botched a chance to meet Sandman one time in Birmingham AL. He was going to meet me at our terminal there, and I thought I had covered all the bases for him to get in. I had cleared it with the terminal manager, had made sure the guard knew he was coming and they told me they would let him park right outside the gate so I could meet up with him. Then when he actually showed up I was in the shop discussing some repairs to my truck, and the guards had changed their shift (unknown to me). Apparently several things colluded together like the new guard didn't get the message, and my cell phone mysteriously lost it's signal when Sandman showed up at the gate. Even though Sandman tried to call me several times, I didn't get the messages until several hours later - what a mess! Sorry Sandman, we could have enjoyed a great lunch at a little "hole in the wall" joint I know of there at Birmingham - their lunch special for that day was "oxtail soup" - it was some good southern cooking too. We'll catch up one of these days!

Okay, so I did get to meet Schism though, and it was quite by accident. We have had some e-mail and phone conversations back and forth, so he knows a little bit about me. Well, he saw me the other day, and came up to me and started using his deductive reasoning skills to figure out just who I was. I enjoyed getting to meet him, and hope we can run into each other again sometime when we have more time to visit.

I remember Daniel making a goal of meeting me this year, but I'm doing my best to avoid him. I don't know why, but I just enjoy messing up his goals! But if I know him, he'll reach his goals, he usually does.

Hope to meet some others of you soon!

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Old School was a pleasure to meet . And if it would have been 2-4 degrees hotter my brain might not have allowed me to figure it out...and might not have walked up to him and said. "Dale ?" TN heat and sun is pretty impressive to a NH native like myself...and flatbed is no joke but Old School takes it all in stride . This man...who has at least a few years on me stands out in a crowd . It's not an easy thing to have a kind demeanor and a smile in a drop yard like Western ' s Nashville terminal but Old School makes it look easy . One of these days I'm going to buy him lunch somewhere but since I was on my 2nd day of load securement training and he was dropping a trailer off I think we got a total of 20 minutes time..maybe 30 tops . In an industry full of malcontents and self righteous underachievers I was thrilled to break up the day with some Old School time .

It was interesting trying to get past the guard to even turn around to leave. I was hoping, by chance, you would see the truck as I spun around in the yard. We will definitely cross paths again and we will get a chances to meet.

I'm waiting patiently for Old School to come to the left coast.....embarrassed.gif Could it be the mountains?????? Tho I have seen their match in eastern states.... Maybe its the cowgirls....they can be intimidating....

StarCar, I go out west fairly often, and I've been in 46 of the lower 48 states, but for some strange reason I've never been dispatched to Washington or Montana. Someday I'll get over there, but it's kind of strange that though the company I work for is called "Western Express" we spend an awful lot of our time in the North Eastern parts of the country. I guess that's where the money is most of the time.

Yup...like any other trucking company, they follow the "paper trail"...I've seen tons of Western Express trucks here...so I know they get here. I'm sure oyu can request a left coast run.....tell 'em you have "family" out here !!smile.gif
