As many of you know I have been in the oil/gas fields in Pennsylvania for the last 5 months. Well due to a change in the way we are paid (we are now payed by the load instead of a day rate) I have decided it's time to move on. I am now headed to the very very very cold state of North Dakota to work out there. It's a flat day rate out there which I like 100 times more then being paid by the load. Overall I probably would have made the same but i like some consistency in my paycheck.

Luckily I'm able to stay with my same company. I have had zero problems with the guys I work for and I am happy to still be with this company. So as of now I'm on my way across the country to glorious Minot, ND. Will a boy from Phoenix, AZ be able to handle a Minot Winter? We will find out.

By the way as many of you know.. Chaining up a semi is no fun. Had my first experience doing that a few days ago.. It was dark, cold, windy and snowing. makes me envious of the guys who have automatic Chains. Hahahha. On a different note.. Give me an Arizona summer over a Winter. Cold just isn't fun.

Good luck Max! I am currently in Appleton WI freezing my keister off so I cannot even imagine what Minot, ND would be like!shocked.png My kids want me to move to Phoenix and I am certainly considering it after being here for the last 8 days!

All I can say is that you haven't seen cold yet Congrats on the move maybe this will be a little better you'll still have hills and ice snow. Dress in layers and keep your warm hat handy.

Wow Max! I hope you take some warm fuzzy underwear with you, cause you're gonna need it. Be careful out there, they tell me the wolves are just watching and waiting for those tuck drivers up there to slip and fall. That cold arctic air up there makes 'em real hungry!

Seriously, you be careful out there. They don't pay that kind of money because the job is easy - that is some very difficult work those guys are doing up there - you are a brave young man.

Best of luck! Hope that move pays off for ya and I hope you do make more money or somethin. Because there are few places on Earth as cold as the Dakotas. They should have stuck you in a freezer at -25 for an hour or two with a 30 mph fan blowing on you and then asked you if "consistency in your paycheck" is that important to ya. But hey, you'll soon find out!

Im thinking of trying oil field work in a year or so. Mind sharing who you work for and what the requirements for hiring are?
