Pedestrian killed near UAB was 23-year-old trying to jump on 18-wheeler, authorities said

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - A pedestrian killed by an 18-wheeler near UAB was a 23-year-old man apparently trying to jump on the truck, authorities said today.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the man as Oline Royce Basped. The accident happened about 5:30 a.m. Thursday along 10th Avenue South at 10 Place South.

The truck driver told police that it appeared the man was running toward his truck when he was hit. Authorities said they believe Basped was trying to jump on to the flat bed and instead fell and got caught under the tractor-trailer.

Authorities said they don't know why Basped was in the area or trying to jump on the truck. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The truck driver stopped immediately, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

For some reason can't post links... Is there something wrong with the forum?

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Did you try the "LINK" button at the top of the "Reply" page? Right next to the "Smiley" button - my favorite ...

It is because of the web address. The forum wants a specific page that ends in things like .com .htm .html etc.

I notice if the link doesn't start with http//www ... then it won't use the link function. For example when I want to use a direct link to an amazon product like this: http://amzn.com/B005MR3IVO it won't take. I have to to a search for the product, get the indirect link by clicking on said product, so it starts with a www.
