I just got a call that they found a little can of Magarita mix in the truck.. It had been so long,I forgot it was even there. ... smh. All my tests were always clean, no accidents, 1 ticket for seatbelt. ... I was told that it will go on my DAC as terminated for company policy. .... should I even bother trying to find another trucking job? Just made 15 months OTR as a team. The sad part is, in 3wks I would've been on the lease choice program with schneider :( What a mess.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

Hopefully you can get on with another company. Rule #1, keep the booze or anything associated with it out of the truck period, it isn't worth the potential problems.

Sorry, wasn't trying to preach, I'm sure you're still beating yourself up about it. Start tossing out apps and see what happens.

Right! It should've gone in the trash many home times ago. .. so much for not cleaning out my suitcase. .. thx!

What he was trying to say was that is should not have been in there in the first place. Then you would have no worries about being sure that you threw it away on home time. It is not worth the risk to your job to have alcohol in the truck at any time. I don't care if someone has a drink before bed but for heaven sakes don't have it while in the truck. Have it with dinner or outside the truck but not in the truck.

Tough break Aloha. Hope your misfortune helps the other guys/gals take that rule VERY seriously.

Get complacent and think you can do something just once and that's all it takes.

Good luck to you.

Thanks guys, I wasn't looking for a lecture. ... I'm pretty sure being in the position is enough for me. I don't even drink while I'm on the road, I think drivers who do that are pushing it. Yet I went on road trip, threw everything in the rental car back into the truck. .... and here I am. ... oh well sucks to be me, I get it. Thanks for the support all! I guess this single mom might as well forget about trucking and live on welfare.

Hay, don't get so down, ok you screwed up, you know that, it won't happen again, right. Now look at what you do have, there are company's out there that will give you a chance, I'm sure as long as your record is clean other than this that you should be able to find a job, try some of the smaller company's not just the big ones. Your in a hole right now, and you will climb out of it, and climb a mountain, if you decide that's what you are going to do.

What the heck kind of attitude is that? You worked hard to get your CDL A, you took on a tough job, I assume you worked hard. Don't get all down about it. Keep on keeping on and apply at every place you can think of. You know now to never have alcohol related stuff in the truck so, just move on and lesson learned. You didn't get into trucking just to be like, "Oh well poor me I guess I'll never truck again." You won't with that attitude. Pick yourself up and get rolling! Stay positive.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Out of curiosity, did the margarita mix have alcohol in it or was it one of those non-alcoholic mixes you have to add the booze to? Because if there was no alcohol in it I'm not sure it's a fireable offense. Just because something is intended to be mixed with alcohol doesn't mean anything. They can say, "No alcohol or alcohol-related products" but it would seem that would be hard to enforce legally. Because Sprite and 7-Up are also commonly mixed with alcohol but it's not a fireable offense to have it in the truck.

You'll also need a copy of your DAC report to see what they put on it. That's going to have a big effect on how difficult it is to land a job.
