I can't speak for other companies but with Knight, you as a student are restricted from phone calls while out with a trainer. Once you've finished training, pass your road test and are in your own truck running solo, then you can use your headset for whatever calls you want. Don't get caught using a phone without a headset though or you'll be driving the shoeleather express and looking for another job.

Squirrel,

I also have that feature with my hearing aids (thank you Uncle Sam via the VA). But I have found for me when I am driving in a big truck, that doesn't work well for me. I still use a Blue Parrot headset while I am in the truck. In my car it works fairly well.

Thanks.... I have the Bone Anchored Hearing aid. Not sure if that's what you have but it works wonders. I have yet to try it in the truck. If not I might need to get the headset then.

But what if you arent driving? Would that depend on the trainer too?

I am sure that if you aren't driving, making phone calls should not be an issue with or without a headset.

I know when I was training the only time I had an issue with a trainee on the phone was when I was trying to teach them something. I would let them talk on the phone with a headset after I was comfortable with them doing what they were supposed to without much difficulty.

Just my .02 cents worth on that.

Ernie
