I took the test yesterday and a class A CDL now lives in my billfold. I came to this website many times for info and encouragement. The article about the backing range being Clown Soup for the Soul made me laugh and helped me not to take it so hard when I messed up. Thank you to all who gave advice and encouragement. This site and forum is a great resource and one I am sure I will use for years to come. Well I am ready to start a new adventure in life as a Truck Driver at age 36 and I can't wait. Thanks and all you guys and gals still working in school stay strong you can do it!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
