Hey I bet if Trump were president he could build the parking areas... and make Mexico pay for them!

Let's hope, we as a country, we never have to deal with Trump as president. If I had to pick a choice of bad choices then I would rather Hilary as president. At least she has experience as president. Lol

The thing that worries me the most about the idea of Trump as president is how he made his fortun, which was eerily similar to the way Romney did: buy companies, mismanagement them into bankruptcy, sell off what he could to earn himself a profit, and take the rest as a tax deductible loss. God alone knows how much of our country he could sell off for his own benefit, but I sure as hell don't want to find out the hard way.

You would think with all the tax dollars that millions of drivers generate daily they (feds) could provide a few thousand parking areas along the interstates.

As far as upkeep let the guys/gals hanging out in the prisons make and maintain them.

but that would take money away from nasa!!! haha it would be nice if they thought in our favor but i doubt it'll happen.

NASA has suffered a severe reduction in budget under Obama.

Besides, why do the Feds need to do this? The States own the rest areas and could see this as a safety issue and create bigger rest areas for trucker down time.

A simple solution to the liability of parking at shippers and receivers is to sign a release waiver.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

It's the ta/petros that charge for parking in busy areas or areas with not much parking. It does suck though knowing that if you aren't off the road early, that you might not find a parking spot.

It's simply not going to happen unless it's structured in a way that someone produces profits from it. The Gov't isn't paying for it because it's a safety issue nor are truck stops doing it without knowing they'll get a return on their investment. If the truck stops could make more money by expanding their lots they would have done it 30 years ago.

They haven't expanded highway capacity to keep up with traffic so I very much doubt anyone is working on a strategy to expand parking capacity.

I think they should go ahead and build paid lots somehow. I don't know how you set it up. Maybe the states build em, maybe private companies - whatever. But if you could pay $5 and you knew there was always going to be a spot open then that's worth it sometimes. It's annoying that you have to worry about finding parking when you're trying to schedule your day. Sure would be nice to pull off the road at 10:00 pm, cruise right into an open spot, and you're good to go. No hassle.

Another hand in my pocket! I don't think so. We should make money to haul freight, not pay money to haul freight. Sorry, but I disagree with your idea.

Great Answer!

Money is just a small factor. Zoning and EPA regulations are the major issue. Truck exhaust, emissions, oil leakage, noise, trash, and not to mention **** bottles, all prevent new facilities. BTW, there is no shortage of parking. There IS a shortage of experienced drivers. Three weeks I've been out on this stint, and not once have I had a problem parking with a nearby restroom. Proper planning, knowledge of the areas, and quality backing skills are the reason why. Today's drivers are fickle about where they park. They HAVE to have the amenities, (shower, restaurant, cable television) . These are all provided by the "Rewards" programs promoted by the major chains. Avoid the major chains. Find the back door truck stops. There is always parking out here if you plan right. Now, 15, 20 years ago, trying to squeeze a 53' trailer into a truck stop built for 45' trailers....that was a challenge.

How do you propose we get more truck parking then?

You're not forced to use truck stops for parking, if you want to park on the side of the road for free go ahead, the rest of us who are willing to shell out a few bucks for conveniences should not have to be limited by your lack of desire to pay.

I know you don't get rich in trucking but honestly $5-10 a night isn't that much compared to how much you make that week. yeah it adds up but you're still making a decent living.
