I'm 66 years young, and had a tia in 09. I'm on Hp med, and sleep with a cpap. Had back surgery in 13. I was seeing a doctor every 3 months but now only at 6 month . My interest is to involve my son in team. I know it would probably take a year before we could drive together. Will anyone hire me?

CPAP:

Constant Positive Airway Pressure

CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.

Here are Trucking Truth's details of the DOT physical: DOT Physical

CPAP in itself is not a disqualifier, but you will need one that reports your usage.

You need to disclose your operation, and the examining Dr will go over it with you.

Finally, someone who admits to being old! We've had a few old people pass through. I'm getting tired of those "ox cart" jokes and Civil War "logistics" comments, and I'm only 64! smile.gif

Your age itself is not a limiting factor. I've been driving for Swift since February, and no problems at all.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Thanks, I believe I can pass the DOT physical. I spoke with a Swift recruiter and can attend the school in OKC.

I saw a little Chinese woman pulling a dry van the other day so....

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Harold, welcome aboard!

I started this career at age 53, it just so happened that the same day I got hired the company hired another man who was 73! They don't care so much about your age as much as they do that you are a responsible, safe individual who can pass the physical.

Bunch of old farts in here. And I'm sitting here like ladeda I'm turn 27 in 3 weeks. Lol

As the others have said. So long as you can pass the DOt physical and pass CFL training, you'll be good. Plus the cpap machine that has a SDcard adapter to report usage

Chinese have what it takes!

I have a silly question about food. I'm trying to eat a healthy diet. I know I can find fruit and some healthy snacks. But my experience is restaurant food is too salty with lots of fat. To not be taking wrong I'm a retired food inspector so I know how food is preserved.

you will find, that eating out is very expensive. Once you are in your truck, a mini fridge, or cooler, will be your best friend, and a microwave, George Foreman, etc, too. This way, you will spend less, and eat healthier.
