Actually, Wade, East Texas has quite a bit of business going on. I don't know any companies in particular, but here's our Trucking Truth list: Trucking Companies (it's a nation wide list) and How To Choose A Company

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

FFE, Stevens, McElroy, Standard Oil, there's tons of others. You just have to do a bit of research to find out, plus companies will change their hiring areas throughout the year.

Hi Wade,

What kind of trucking do you want to do? What are you aiming for... dry van? reefer? flatbed? heavy haul?

Do you want to go long-haul or regional?

Do you want to be home every night? Or out on the road for weeks at a time.

With answers to those questions, it would be easier to guide you to what would work for 'you'.

I can tell you that we LOVE our company. You can be hired out of East Texas even though our main terminal isn't there. But there are terminals in Texas. Our company does hire out of most states except a very few. But...

....it may not be the right choice for you if you're not interested in long-haul. That's what we do.

I'll come and check back in... - Andrea

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Wade, I'm an over the road driver who lives in Nacogdoches. TX. The companies I've worked for usually have their main terminal at least a thousand miles away. As an OTR professional you don't have to have a terminal near your home, you just need a company that hauls freight in your area. If you were to just park somewhere in sight of I-20 right there going past Tyler you will see at least a hundred different trucking company trucks go by in about an hour. Most of the names you see are hiring drivers right out of that area.

Ahhh, but there's an easier way! Follow this link to this section of our web site and you can put your zip code in there and it will give you a listing of companies that are hiring in your area. It will also allow you to fill out one application and send it to several different companies of your choice. Brett has made it easy peezy for ya!

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
