You gave me a good chuckle with that one! You guys are tough whether hot or cold. For some reason that reminds me that I had an Iranian friend years ago who could not comprehend why we put ice in our tea when it was winter time. It just was unfathomable to him.
Hey Persian, this slow time will end - do what you can to enjoy some of that down time - a couple of months from now you will be begging for a break in the action.

SO TRUE! On the flip side of that, my parents and their friends will sit out on the balcony on a hot summer afternoon... and sip hot tea.
We may have been doing algebra and chemistry thousands of years ago, but apparently the concept of iced drinks just never caught on!
I will say this though: my dad is 76 years old, has been drinking multiple cups of hot tea every day of his life, and he is still in excellent health and is extremely active.
And yeah, I'm trying to enjoy the down time a little more, it's just frustrating because I have certain financial goals I'm trying to achieve and I feel like I'm at a standstill right now. Just needed to vent I guess.
My question is about the same, along with when will rates go up. All the turnpike tolls on the east coast went up along with bridge tolls in new york. We're about to stop running the east coast runs because there is very little profit in it.
Persian come run a reeffer I am running my 70 out weekly.

Ewwww, no way, I prefer real truck driving...
I would love to lurn flatbed but only in the spring, summer time. Then do reeffer in the fall and winter. Best of both worlds I think.
I'm lucky I guess still averaging 5700 miles a week teaming. Fleet manager told me yesterday that I am well above the average in the fleet and to keep my fuel costs low like I have, running on schedule like we've been doing he will keep me going.
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!
Sorry, had to let that out.
It just sucks, for the past several weeks I've really been struggling to keep my paychecks up, but I can't seem to break $1000 no matter how hard I try.
In the summer I was getting $1000+ paychecks regularly, and that was BEFORE my $0.03 cpm raise.
The freight is just too slow right now. I've sat around waiting most weekends because the Friday loads I get are usually only a few hundred miles, and the receivers are almost always closed on weekends.
Some weeks I've actually taken more than one 34-hour restart.
I'm just so ready for spring. Winter is lame. The days are short, nights are long, weather is too dang cold for my blood (my ancestors did live in the desert after all), and I WANT TO KEEP MOVING!!!
There is a very old saying.... Careful what you wish for, you just might get it!
This is your first winter right? I have only been working 2-4 days a week here and yes it gets boring but I know it will be picking back up soon.
Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.
Yeah, I did six little 300 mile loads last week. This week is tougher - sat for 6 hours today and 4 hours yesterday waiting for a load. Some guys are sitting for a day or a day and a half between loads.
Thankfully there have been a few good windstorms recently so the roofing freight has picked up a bit. What we need is some big hail storms and a tornado or two to really get things moving, especially since California has been getting more moisture which will hurt the pipe loads.
