Adam, your time on the road is going to be booked pretty solid with work most of the time but you will certainly have time to get out and have some fun. I used to find all kinds of awesome stuff to do. Sometimes I'd spend time in Vegas or New Orleans or Los Angeles running around having fun. A lot of times I'd just hit a high school football game or a NASCAR race or whatever I could find going on that night in the area.

Adam, as an OTR truck driver you'll have a chance to see much of the USA. But as Brett says, you'll be too busy just to hang out in the towns you pass through.

Most of your time you'll be driving on Interstates, and you can enjoy the changing scenery as you travel from shippers to receivers. Once you drop a load, you'll have another to go pick up. And as the song says "Turn the page".

Depending on how you work your schedule, you may have a day or so to stop in one place. That's when you might get out and look around. But you will mostly see interstate scenery, and you will learn to dislike being in a big city with a big truck on small streets. Yes, being new to the business, it's hard to know what you will do every day. Your career will be what you make it to be. But decide ahead of time that you will enjoy it.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

I fly drones during my good weather daytime freetime. Booked all day today for that actually. At night it's just tv or games. Other than that I like to find a nice steak to eat most weekends.
