Thank you everyone!! I am really happy! Btw, I'm will be doing OTR dryvan!

@Lemmy - I will probably see you in the academy! My orientation will start monday!

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Dryvan:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Congrats Flatie C. I am at my 3rd day at the Swift Phoenix Academy. It is awesome. We've been doing Straight Line Backing all day. Everyone here is very kind and helpful. I'm glad I made this choice. Good Luck!

We get paid the first 2 days of orientation right? And the next payroll will be on the road with a trainer? Is it per hr or mile?

Flatie, I'm confused. Have you been to CDL school already? Because the driving academy and orientation are two different things...

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

@Flatie, you become a Swift employee on day #3 of orientation. In school you are a student, not getting paid.

A year ago orientation day was $112.38. As a trainee you get paid hourly. On Duty Not Driving was worth $7.25, Driving got you $9.50 per hour.

My trainer made sure I burned all available hours each day. #1. I made more money per day, and #2. I went through my 200 hours in less time!

I had to correct you, Rob, or you would end up south of I-20 near Jackson, MS.

How long is the total days while I'm gonna be in school and orientation? Hopefully my trainer will let me burn the time as well 😊

@ Leeney - No not yet! I'm getting confused with the class and orientation like how many weeks we will be in the class and so orientation before we hit the road with a trainer?

@ Philip - As you going to Swift Academy also?

Follow up question. Do I need to bring my steel toe boots? It didn't say in my note. I'm not a flat footed so it really hurts when I wear em :( I have to wait til I get check to get a new one.. If it's okay to wear regular shoes even on the road then I will bring my spery instead.

Thank you guys! I'm so ready to start a new chapter of my life! Enjoying my second to the last night in state of Oklahoma then I will enjoy the Beauty of United States!!! 😊😊😜
