My first job was food service delivery with Sygma Network. Very physical job but very good pay for a new driver. You have to have your CDL already from a qualifying school (160 hours) but I was home 2 days a week and 1 layover at home. Plus they put you up in hotels when your on a layover route.
It's a good option if you go to a private school and are not afraid of hard work.

Thank you Chris. Sysco is one of the places on my list. I think the hard work would be worth it!
I got home every weekend during training at TMC Transport. They can't guarantee it, but they try to get you a trainer who lives near you and they get all their drivers home every weekend (unless they want to stay out longer). This would be flatbed, not sure if that is something you are interested in. I imagine some other companies do this as well, but I can't speak to them from experience.
Have you checked with Roehl Transport yet? Being from Wisconsin they might have local or regional jobs that get you home even during training.

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
Check with Millis Transfer up there. They are a good company and what you do on the weekends is up to you...IF you are talking about while IN CLASS, While you are with a Trainer ON a Truck probably NOT... Not gonna make much money OTR if you are home ever weekend.
Are there any of the big companies where you go out with the trainer (for several weeks) that will have you home on weekends during the training period? I'm in Wisconsin....

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
