I'm about to start filling out job applications. I have a DUI conviction that is 20 years old. Since then I have a clean driving record. My question is, should I put that DUI conviction on my app? Thanks.

I would say answer it honestly, but only answer the exact question. In other words, if they ask if you've ever had a DUI , you should tell them you have. They're going to find it one way or another. But most companies will ask for a time frame like "in the past 10 years". In that case obviously the answer is no.

Some companies do indeed have a "no DUI's for life" policy so they're not going to hire you. Most companies aren't this strict though so you'll have no problem finding work. I just worry that you'll withold information and they'll find it anyhow.

Mike, I'm going to say leave it off. If it is that old they aren't going to be looking back that far on your driving records. It could come back to bite you though if it is on a criminal background check, even then it is so old that I don't think it will be a problem in most cases. There may be a small handful of companies that just won't touch you with that, but there are plenty of them that will not consider it as a hindrance.

If you start hitting snags over this jump back in and let us know what is going on and we'll see what we can do to help.

I agree with Old school. I know that honesty is the best policy. But dang it, we've seen it come back to bite people here on the board. SO...if your DUII is not a felony conviction, I'd forget it. Now if you run into a company that has the "no DUII's EVER"...then don't apply, so you don't have to lie. But most companies don't go over 10 years max. Good luck, and we will help you all we can....keep us informed. Welcome to TT, and WELCOME TO YOUR ADVENTURE !!!

I'm having the same problem. I went to school at cypress and was there till time to test and got cut loose because their insurance won't cover me because I have a 20 year old DUI. And 11 years ago I had a citation for an open container not in a vehicle. Everyone keeps telling me it's not a problem but I guess I'll find out having to start all over through training.

Howdy, Justin; welcome to Trucking Truth!

Doubt anyone from before is still in this thread, but for the moderators, anyway.

A few questions, if I may;

1.) How long (if at all) have you driven?

2.) Is your CDL and Med Card current?

3.) Where are you located?

4.) Have you tried applying here? ~ Apply For Paid CDL Training

The link that Brett attached in his reply IS AWESOME; hope you did read it. Nowadays, many companies take DUI's on a case by case and time passed situation; you really should be able to find a company, imho.

Hope to hear back;

~ Anne ~
