If those are your two choices and that's what you don't like about PAM then go with Swift. We have many very happy swift drivers on this site. Also, have you looked here, Paid CDL Training Programs? If you don't have your permit yet start here, High Road Training Program. Also, this is a good read. Becoming A Truck Driver: The Raw Truth About Truck Driving

Hope all that helps.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Four plus years with Swift on a Dedicated Walmart Account. Trained with Swift, stayed with Swift, by choice.

I have really good relationships with my DMs (requires work and effort), I never sit for too long, and I make decent money.

We constantly reinforce the concept that good drivers can be successful with most any company. Don't believe all the negative press, consider the source of that information; former disgruntled drivers blaming the company for their failure. It's nonsense.

Swift is a hugely successful enterprise employing thousands of drivers, has a huge customer base and tons of freight in their system. They didn't grow to that size by being a below average company.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

The thing you have to remember about any review site is that people generally do not go to a site to give positive reviews, but tons of people will come to post their negative experienced.

Think of it like this, for every negative review you see, there are probably 10 positive opinions you dont see.

Take a closer look at both companies. Remember, the training phase is temporary, so check the "permanent" situation of driving for each.

Looks like PAM may lose out here, if no PAM drivers speak up. :-)

I drive for Swift. I started school in early December, and by February I was solo. Been at it for two years and I don't see any need to change companies.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
