I'm from NJ and if you roll through there and get caught you will get three to four years in jail. That's a fact. A trucker with a PA gun permit got caught. Even a PA corrections officer. Someone slammed into him on the NJ expressway, he told the officer the gun was under his seat... He was arrested. Yes NJ will even arrest law enforcement... They don't care who you are.

NJ does not recognize out of state issues. And getting one from NJ is extremely difficult ... Even for federal employees.

I'm not telling younwhat to do in your truck... But my state will criminalize you.

Can you take a bow and arrow? I would like to target practice at a rest stop.

I would recommend saving that activity for hometime.

Funny - arrow to the knee?

Someone here recently asked about a Compound Bow so they could do some hunting while on the road. Much as it's nice to have hobbies to pass the off hours, ones like these are best left at home.

But we digress - since we're talking about firearms for self-defense on a CMV.

What Rainy relates is similar in a few other ultra-blue states in the NE and left coast. I heard a story about a guy that was getting a connecting flight through Newark, with a firearm legally checked in his baggage. His connecting flight cancelled, and the airline put him (and his bag) up in a hotel for the night. When he came back in the AM, and went through the "checked firearm in luggage" procedure at the counter - he found himself in handcuffs. Case was eventually dismissed (after having to bond out, hire a lawyer, etc.) and it took him an additional lawsuit to get his gun back. CRAZY STUFF.

Maryland can also be pretty draconian, especially when it comes to out-of-staters. I've done a considerable amount of traveling with firearms all over the country. There are certain states, where I completely disassemble the pistol and put the parts in separate locked boxes or compartments of the vehicle (or my trailer, if I happen to be taking band gear or my motorcycle), drive 5MPH under the speed limit and PRAY the entire way. Illinois was famous for arresting folks for just passing through, until the MacDonald case went through SCOTUS and they lightened up a little (except in Chi-Town).

Keep in mind that felony firearms charges, will cause you to FORFEIT YOUR 2nd AMENDMENT RIGHTS.

Also keep in mind that - having a firearm unloaded and locked up does NOTHING FOR YOU in the case of a "critical self defense incident". These typical happen without warning, and a firearm that's not ready for immediate access and action (as in LOADED and on your person or immediately accessible), is the same as NO FIREARM AT ALL.

Rick

CMV:

Commercial Motor Vehicle

A CMV is a vehicle that is used as part of a business, is involved in interstate commerce, and may fit any of these descriptions:

  • Weighs 10,001 pounds or more
  • Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more
  • Is designed or used to transport 16 or more passengers (including the driver) not for compensation
  • Is designed or used to transport 9 or more passengers (including the driver) for compensation
  • Is transporting hazardous materials in a quantity requiring placards

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Well stated Rick, yes, if i cannot have it loaded and ready, it is a larger hazard than not having it.

All the other issues mentioned where due to mis-steps and outright ignorance of requirements and laws. ( I have traveled extensivly with my firearms as well since i do/did enjoy competition shooting, speed steels, and IDPA and now 3 gun, ( SASS is a running interest) which included one trip to P.R.)

Many rules you need to be aware of especally in the New England area, yes read that as N.Y. and New Jersey ( and yes, I know NY is not considered part of New England area).

I almost had a heart attack when I saw all the fire arm signs on the road... And my trainer from Indiana took me to a raffle... For 26 different weapons including a tommy sub machine gun. Wow... Things are different haha
