How About A Teamspeak Server?

Just curious if anyone has thought of setting one up? I think it would be an awesome way for us to keep in touch, and since they have a phone app, you could just use it through your blue tooth headset, just like a phone call, only it would be a chat room. You can use it both on your computer as well as your phone.

I had one in the past, it's not hard to set up. You can do it one of two ways. You can either rent a server, which I'm not sure of the cost, l will look into it, and if its not crazy expensive, I'll set it up.

However, if anyone has a computer at home that they could set up as a dedicated server, you can download the teamspeak server software free of charge and host your own teamspeak server. This is what I did when I had my server set up.

Anyway, I thought this would be a cool thing to have so we could log in from wherever and have someone to chat with on those long drives, or, if anyone had a question, they could ask it right over voice comes.

Thoughts?

That's an interesting thought. I'm gonna ponder that a bit. Not sure if that is something we would want as an official part of the website or not. It might be.

TS would be cool, but I think Discord would be easier. It's more of an IM'ing program with voice built in if wanted. Can be accessed by PC or smart-phone.

I've never used anything like that, but I really like that idea. I think if we set it up I would dial in regularly. I'd offer to host but I don't have a home right now.

I don't think that would work Since its an IM program. We don't want to be looking at phones while we're driving lol. I think TS or Ventrilo would work the best.

Oh teamspeak and ventrillo....it's been so long old friends lol

Could be cool, I probably unfortunately would not use it, mostly personal but I can't really talk when I'm hauling.

If anything else I do recommend it for good sized groups that want to be social via voice chat, I've had a lot of laughs and good times when I used those programs before with other groups.

Could give it a feeler with info posted to a thread once a few parties are interested and if it kicks off nice, decide later if you'd want it to be site affiliated or not. I can see where a moderator would feel it could be a great thing that goes sour like if someone disagrees, you can't simply delete something that was said over voice. But you can have moderator controls to ban people or kick someone off the server also can change the log in password, have separate channels set up with their own passwords. Can even pull people into a channel and then jump in with them if you need to have a private word. I'm not sure how well it'd work out for when people are on the road since I haven't tried it via smart device, But not too shabby an idea.

Would definitely have to be prudent about who has access. Maybe only established members be given the password? It's not something you would want to leave unmoderated, but at the same time, it's something that is going to be hard to moderate while driving.

For this reason, perhaps the password not be given to brand new members, but to people who have been on the forum for a short time, just to get a feel for how they are going to behave.

I have a friend who has a teamspeak set up on his computer and it's a great way for any of our friends to log in and chat with people who are in there, and since we're all friends, we don't have to worry about riff raff. Nobody is going to join the server and start causing problems.

I'm not familiar with discord, but I do have a friend who likes it. Could give it a look. I just suggested teamspeak since it's a well established program and they have a fully functional phone app, and I've been using it for awhile and know that it works really well.
