And if you're still in doubt call them and ask.

I will reiterate one more time. If you have any doubt as to whether or not you will pass, WAIT! You do not want a failed drug test on your record. Pay for a private test if necessary.

We've had members here report waiting 6 months to test - and FAILING. This might have to do with the weed being SO MUCH MORE POTENT NOWADAYS (that is, unless you're buying nickel bags off the corner).

So our (or my) recommendations have gone up to 8-9 months.

Shaving and doing all sorts of weird gyrations - is still not as good as BEING CLEAN.

As someone else mentioned - get a private test done, if you go with a company that does do hair - so you KNOW FOR SURE that you're clean before you go.

Even though follicle is NOT DOT APPROVED (yet) it will go down as a FAILED PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREEN and still pretty much trash your future opportunities in this industry.

Rick

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Mitch, Didn't you realize that Drug testing was going to be mandatory prior to getting your CDL? It is not the end of the world. I would just hate to see you jump the gun and drop hot, ruining your chances for a future in this Business. You must have attended a Private School that did not do a drug test prior to enrolling? Or did you get it on your own without attending a School at all?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Being a barber, I can tell you this fairly straight. As your hair is grown whatever chemicals you are exposed to at the time a particular segment of hair is created is permanently locked away in it. Tbh, between hair and nails a timeline of overall health, hygiene, and diet as well as any chemical exposures can be determined.

Hair on your head generally grows 1/4" to 1/2" in a month. Things such has health, diet, age, and genetics all effect growth. that being said, how long your hair is will determine how far back you can test a particular sample. The longer your hair, the farther into your past they can dig.

Worse case, is you can shave your ENTIRE body then wait 4 months for new growth to become long enough to test. Of course you have to stay completely clean. just remember you will itch in places you have never shaved before. As your skin in not desensitized to the scrapping caused by the cut hair follicle against the pores in your skin.

I went to a "school" that is horrible paid $800 just to get my license because I have been driving large trucks for a long time just without my license. I knew there would be drug testing but I had no idea it was going to be hair test that is nuts..... I can test clean for urine seeing as it has been a month and some now. I bought a test kit for hair on amazon. I will test and update this forum on the 1st of the year. It will mark 3 months and 2 weeks here's goes nothing *crosses fingers*

Wise move. Keep us posted. There are plenty of, as in most, Companies that only do UA. I'm not sure how long you can drop dirty on a UA. Certainly not as long as hair. Make some phone calls to Recruiters and find out their company policies. If you are worried about them having your phone number, get a Google Voice or similar service phone number. Google voice used to be free. I still have one I've had for several years. Still works!
