I was searching for an empty in the Denver terminal this morning (story of my life) to take up to Coors to pickup cans. The thing about picking up cans is that your trailer has to be pretty much perfect. I finally found one that looked good, hooked up to it and swept it out. I didn't call dispatch yet to get hooked to it in the system because I wanted to take it to the shop for its inspection first. As I'm getting in my truck and pulling out of the spot, this guy pulls up next to me and calls someone. I go over to the shop and find out he called and had dispatch connect the trailer to him even though he obviously saw me with it. Now, he has every right to do that and I had to give the trailer to him, but seriously? If you see someone connecting to a trailer, it's just courteous to let them have the damn thing. The thing is he never even said a word to me or indicated he wanted it. Jeez, communication and courtesy are still important even at the Swift Denver terminal.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Unless they had assigned it to him and he thought someone was running off with his trailer.

But yeah, takes some cajones. 😠

That happened to me ONCE! I told my DM to never let a planner do that to me again. She was ****ed! (Not at me, the Planner). Planner promised me a trailer.........yeah right....two wild goose chases later I called him and told him I was Bobtailing to the shipper. He didn't argue.

Bobtail:

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

You see, I'm the type that I would have not given it up, especially after I had done work on it.

I would have been on the phone with my dm letting him know what happened and hope he would fix it. If not, and I had to drop the trailer, I would have dropped it in a real bad spot, like at a bad angle with other equipment to make it difficult to hook up to, or in a mud puddle.

Well, not really, bit those would be going through my head lol.

Haha. If I were with my old dm I might have tried to convince him to let me keep it, but I'm dealing with a whole crew of people here in Denver that I don't know yet, and they don't know me. I did rant a little to the window dispatcher about it, who told me he would rather me rant to him than go out there and pick a fight. I did park it toward the back of the lot, lol.

Someone "stole" a trailer out from under you? It's so irritating man! It's frustrating because they have every right to do that. The reason I didn't call dispatch first is that I didn't want to create extra work for them if the trailer didn't pass inspection. So, the next trailer I hooked to I called about and got dispatched with. Guess what? It didn't pass inspection, so I wasted the dispatcher's time--exactly what I was trying to avoid the first time.

Well not stole it. I made the guy call the Planner and have him tell me to give it up. That is when the Planner said he would get me one "close by". I had only been Solo for a few weeks. Called my DM before I finally gave it up. Planners are above DM's. Paper covers rock so to speak. She was dessip off though. ( Just got past the naughty word filter by spelling it backwards) !
