Philly Fan asks:

Thanks though for the other advice. So no one has been successful working this type of partnership.

Sorry (truly) to be negative again. The surest way to change friends into mortal enemies is to go into business together.

First week: I'll do this, you can do that. Yeah! Great! Then I'll take care of the rest. Boy why didn't we start this sooner!!

Fifth week: I thought you were doing this. Why did you spend that money? Aren't you going to drive to Birmingham? Why do I end up taking care of this all the time, I should be paid extra.

Tenth week: If you trash the truck before I can get it sold, I'm keeping all the money left over. ****** **** ****** ***** and I'll see you in court!! ******* *** ****!

That reminds me of my Second Marriage! But it lasted 10 months, not 10 weeks

Yes, marriages and partnerships are very similar. And often one partner gets the shaft.

I'm going to jump in on thus,"taboo" topic. My very experienced co driver has mentioned wanting us to buy our own truck, team, has a certain company in mind to go with etc. I am COMPLETELY OPPOSED to the idea. I see way too many risks financially and he isn't very good at managing money. A recipe for disaster. One major breakdown and we would be screwed.

Besides, I like being a company driver. No worries about repairs, maintenance, tires, trailers, taxes, plates, insurance, etc. I do my part to make sure nothing is wearing out or needs attention (good pretrip inspections), they give me freight to haul, and I drive. Best of all, they pay me well to do that.

I appreciate your perspective. I was hoping to get a success story mixed in with all the negative aspects. I"ll leave it alone the consensus is its a bad idea.

THanks again everyone.

Philly Fan, negative or not unfortunately it's reality. In a commodity business that has on average an operating ratio of 95-97% it's very difficult to for an individual do that much better.

I love all class 8 trucks...but not to the extent I want to risk financial ruin owning one.
