I haven't noticed any problems. If it's a problem for you then i would say call Road Assist but other than that I don't know what to say.
Sometimes are slower than others, pending the strength of signal.
If it is like most Computers, it may need a reboot! (I have no idea how to do it).
Mine used to freeze. Turn the power switch on the floor off to the truck for a few minutes. It resets the QC. ;)
Worked for me. Unfortunately after each update I have to remember to do that or freeze freeze freeze again.
My favorite is when I get off the exit to my 01 or 90 and she randomly says Out of Route and looses signal. I like the system for the most part I just wish it would auto reroute if you mess up.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Diver Driver, there is a possibility that your Quallcomm needs to be replaced or repaired. You could always tell the folks in the shop what it is doing and they may decide to replace it. We are using the Zonar system in our trucks, but each time that I have had mine consistently acting slow to process some form of information, I have found that the processor is going bad, and it will soon be on the fritz altogether.
Remember that GPS is just a tool in your arsenal, you really should have that trip written down and routed completely on paper before you just blindly take off following that GPS. I do not rely on my GPS very much at all, in fact most of the time mine is off.
Here's something that I consider comical. Our company's policy is that making a U-turn is an inexcusable offense and the driver will be terminated. Well, that's not comical, but the story our Safety Director recently told me about having to let a driver go for doing a U-turn was. The driver insisted that it was the GPS that told him to make the U-turn, and he didn't see how you could fire him when it was your GPS that instructed me to do that.

That is too funny!!! Google streetview is my best friend when planning my trip. I always look at my pick up and delivery and plan ahead of time how I am going to get in and out. Nothing worse than rolling into a situation blindly with no time to react.
Old school I was thinking I would do just what you suggested once I start driving. I'm still a little old fashioned in many ways and not comfortable putting my complete trust in technology. Plus I comprehend directions better in written form. And if the darn thing fritzed out I'd be ok. I'll take an atlas over a computer anyday.

Now that is funny ! Thank you everyone for the tips.
While I use my GPS for the turn by turn, I realize that it is just a tool. I make sure that before I head out, I cross reference my atlas and Google maps as well.
There is a nice area in St. Louis on I-70 E. where 70 and 44 meet. The GPS says something like "in 1 mile take exit 3, to continue on I-70 E." If your not paying attention to the signs, you'll continue, but will end up on 44, and out of route.
If you watch the signs, you'll see that it's actually, "in 1/4 mile, take exit 249B to continue on I-70.
Maybe we should start a new thread... "biggest gaffes made by the GPS." The Dallas area has a couple of doosies. (Talking about 35E)

Has anyone else noticed a trend of the Qualcomm GPS to take forever to find directions ? It seems most times I now have to retry a few times for the directions to even come up. I get the "communications failure" message quite often.
Using the "recent addresses" tab seems to help, but it's not a guarantee.
Qualcomm:
Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.
