Hey folks, we put out a new article today called:

Two Types Of Tractor-Trailer Jackknives, And How To Deal With Them

This one is unique because we've put together two short animated examples, super simple ones this time, because they're our first shot at doing animated videos. They're also the first two videos on our:

Official TruckingTruth YouTube Channel

We're going to expand on this concept in a big way and put out a lot more animations in the future. It's a great way to teach things like air brakes, cargo loading, changing weight distribution by sliding your axles, backing maneuvers, and many others.

We're pretty pumped about the future of these animations!

But that wasn't the big announcement.

Here's The Big Announcement

We're also building a brand new "News, Interviews, and Happenings From The Trucking World" section of the website which is going to be awesome. We're hoping to post our first article within the next week, and I'll give you a lot more details very soon with more announcements coming.

But I can't resist giving you a preview, because here's the exciting part for you guys:

I'm going to be posting topics here in this forum to gather opinions from you guys on all sorts of different topics, like we have recently on "What would you change about the logbook rules?" and "How can we prevent delays at customers?"

We'll be quoting you guys, and we'll be hoping to get pictures and bio's and things of that nature to put right into the articles. So you guys are going to become the news and your opinions will now be heard by a huge audience!

But Wait, There's More!

I'm also going to be breaking out the camera and microphone to take some photos, do some audio interviews, and do some video interviews, with special features on drivers from right here in our forum.

It goes without saying, but I love saying it anyhow, that we have an absolutely incredible community of people here who have either already become Top Tier Professionals in this industry, or are working really hard to learn what it takes to become one. Thousands of people read this forum every day, but I want to be able to dig deeper and really give you guys the opportunity to share your experiences, your opinions, and your accomplishments with the widest possible audience.

So this is super exciting for us and you guys are gonna have the chance to be seen and heard throughout the trucking community for many years to come. Did I mention each article gets promoted through email to over 55,000 people on our list, and that we get about 300,000 visits per month? Well I did now!

I'll give more announcements as we get started with new projects and I'm really looking forward to the great things we're going to do with this community. You guys are awesome. I really enjoy this more than I know how to put into words.

But Wait! One More Thing!

A new round of promotions are coming for new moderators! We've been talking about it for some time and we have several people on the list that are about to get notified privately first, by email, that we'd like to promote them. If they agree, we'll promote them and we'll make the announcement right after we do. I'm also going to put together a special section of the forum with really nice photos and bios of our moderators so people can learn more about you guys and gals.

This will happen over the next few days.

Wow, that was a lot! I need to go gonna get a sandwich. That really wore me out!

Thanks so much!

Logbook:

A written or electronic record of a driver's duty status which must be maintained at all times. The driver records the amount of time spent driving, on-duty not driving, in the sleeper berth, or off duty. The enforcement of the Hours Of Service Rules (HOS) are based upon the entries put in a driver's logbook.

Haha! So much for your vacation in the Adirondacks!

I actually love how you operate... I'm the same way, I can mix leisure, pleasure, and work all together in one package. It gives life and work meaning and pleasure, and I find very few people who seem to be able to do this.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

Exactly! I've always pursued things I love to do. I never start down a path because I think it'll lead to making money. I always pursue things that sounds like a lot of fun and after doing them for a while I sometimes find opportunities to make some money that way. Otherwise I'd be a brain surgeon or a corporate executive downtown New York or something. But man, that doesn't sound like it's any fun!

I mean, I've mentioned I went through my first computer programming book when I was about 11 or 12. I spent years and years playing on computers as a hobby, rather intensively at that. Heck, it wasn't until I was probably 36 or 37 before I ever made a single penny doing anything on a computer.

I've been working at learning photography and video and sound for over a year now, and a few weeks ago I did a photo and video shoot for my niece on her prom day. It turned out fantastic, and I'm still putting together the soundtrack for the video. I told my sister, "I have to charge you $1 for this so I can tell people I'm a professional photographer! You can't say you're a professional if you've never made any money with it!"

So she laughed like crazy and handed me four quarters she had in her pocket, which just made it ten times funnier! That really made my day.

And what's more fun than bootstrapping a hobby or a small business? Find stuff you love to do and use stuff you have lying around the house and see if you can turn it into something. You're definitely going to learn a lot no matter how it all turns out, and as long as you're doing things you enjoy you don't really care if you make money doing it in the end or not. As long as I have enough money left over at the end of the day for a sandwich I know I'll be able to make it through the night and try again tomorrow.

This was actually the best part, and you didn't even put this in your original post. I'm going to try to incorporate this mindset more in my own life.

Man, I'll tell ya.......I've never once in my life said, "I wish I would have pursued something common and sensible instead of that super fun and awesome thing I'm doing!"

I'd rather go hiking with my dog every day and live in a cardboard box than go to meetings in a boardroom all day and live in a mansion.

I can hear my mom now saying, "That's stupid!"

Thanks, ma. I know.

Was that followed by: "You're the smartest dumb person I know"?
